Traditional Meeting of Former Sümerbank Employees

Former employees of Kayseri Sümerbank Textile Factory came together on the Sümer Campus of Abdullah Gül University and reminisced about the old days.

The meeting of the former employees of Kayseri Sümerbank Textile Factory, traditionally organized by the Abdullah Gül University (AGU) Faculty of Architecture every year, took place for the sixth time this year. The former Sümerbank employees took an emotional tour of their old workplaces on the Sümer Campus.

Many of the former Sümerbank employees gathered at the Rectorate Conference Hall in the morning for their meeting at the historical area, transformed into the AGÜ Sümer Campus with restorations and reliefs. In addition, several authors who were relatives of the Sümerbank employees were also in attendance at this year's meeting.

Prof. Dr. Burak Asiliskender, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, shared some information about AGU with the attendees.

Afterward, Nihat Alacalıoğlu took the floor on behalf of all the former employees and shared that she had memories on every inch of the Sümer Campus and that coming back here always moved her as she remembered those days.

Authors Zahide Sevim Balkaya, Beyhan Angay Köselioğlu, and Güler Öztaşkın also expressed their feelings about the good days they spent on the campus premises as children and grandchildren of the Sümerbank Textile Factory employees and how those childhoods had positive effects on their lives.

After the conversation, the documentary “Bozkırda Bir Modern” (Modernity in the Steppes), prepared by director Yasin Ali Türker about Sümerbank Textile Factory, was screened.

After the screening, the authors signed their books.

The former Sümerbank employees talked about the old days while visiting their former workplaces, which are now educational areas such as classrooms, student houses, laboratories, etc.

The visitors relived those old days by telling each other their memories.
